Water and the Lymphatic System
The lymphatic system relies on its ability to ensure the lymph fluid flows from our tissues, to our lymph nodes and eventually to the elimination organs; drinking enough clean, filtered water is going to be crucial to this process.
So how much water should I drink?
If you’ve seen people carry around those massive 3 liter jugs of water, and wonder if you should be doing that too – keep reading!
While drinking plenty of water is important, it’s better to listen to your body to understand how much YOU require, rather than setting external goals.
One simple way to figure out whether your body is well hydrated is to look at the colour of your urine next time you go to the bathroom. You want your urine to be a pale yellow (think lemonade). If it’s dark like apple juice, you need more water; if it’s clear like water you’re probably overdoing it!
So, if you’re working your body hard in the middle of summer, then you may require that 3 liter jug, however, during a more sedentary day when the temperature is more moderate this will likely not be the case. Your needs will vary from day to day and can also vary person to person.
Keep in mind that hydration is more than just water; keep an eye out for my next post where I’ll be discussing electrolytes!
