This week’s spotlight is on Tea Tree essential oil, also known as Melaleuca. This essential oil comes from the leaves of the Tea Tree which is native to Australia, and has a long history, with Aborigines often simply crushing the leaves in their hands and inhaling the aroma to help with colds and a variety of other illnesses.
Tree oil is best known for its purifying properties, but can support a variety of health issues including colds & flu, ear infections, and athlete’s foot. Tea Tree essential oil can be used aromatically (as in a diffuser), topically (diluted with another oil such as coconut oil) applied to the skin. If you'd like to learn more about the basics of essential oils, please see my 'Essential Oils' page. **As always, ensure that your essential oils are obtained from a trusted source. Otherwise, they may be unsafe to use in the ways I’ve mentioned above.
